Monty was born and raised in Southeastern Oklahoma in the small town of Sawyer, which is nested along the banks of the Kiamichi River. He’s owned horses and cattle, riding the former and working the latter. Over the years he formed a deep connection and respect for the old west and the courageous folks who braved the wild frontier.
Monty is an avid reader and is particularly enthusiastic when it comes to western authors and novels. His love of reading sparked his desire to write his first short story. He loves writing about real places and landmarks from the 1800s. In college, he wrote a ten-page paper about his grandmother, born in 1886, who married at fourteen and took in five orphaned nieces and nephews shortly thereafter. Monty’s love for history and penchant for storytelling earned him an A+, and he hasn’t looked back since.
He attended Murray State College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Now retired, he loves to travel, fish, spend time with his four grandkids, and tell stories. He looks for inspiration for future books wherever he goes.
He is a member of the Western Writers of America Inc.
